Difference between the Shimano XT RT86 IceTech 6-bolt Rotor and the Shimano SM-RT76 6-Bolt Rotor

The difference between the Shimano XT RT86 IceTech 6-bolt Rotor and the Shimano SM-RT76 6-Bolt Rotor is within the structure of the rotors braking surface and also the pattern. The RT86 rotor has a 3 piece construction which consists of 2 stainless steel layers that sandwich an aluminum one. The RT76 has a two piece construction with an aluminum spider and a solid steel rotor surface. The RT86 will be better at dissipating heat from the caliper and mineral oil in the brakes hose. When the rotor heats up it also heats up the other parts of the brake which cause a reduction in the performance in the brake. Either way both of these rotors are "floating rotors"which are superior in this regard to a solid steel rotor. I hope this helps in your rotor selection!
